Procedures and complications

Every time I meet people that I know, they will ask what happen to your glasses, Did you break it? This is some of common questions I received because they know that I've been using glasses for a long time. So I started to explain that I'm free from glasses anymore. I can see without using anything, glasses or lens. So start to explain that I've undergo a Lasik eye surgery. Some of them know about the surgery very basic and some them don't know anything what is Lasik all about. So here I would like to share what is Lasik procedures and is there any complication after the surgery.

Procedures
Throughout the surgery, you will be awake. You actually know and feel what are the doctor do with your eyes. It sometime scarry because the femtoseconds machine come closer to your eyes. Once you have sit on the reclining chair, a numbing drops will be put into your eyes and once your eyes are fully numb, there will be a special tools to make your eyes open throughout the procedures. So the doctor will ask you to focus on a light to ensure that your eye are remain steady within the procedure. A suction cup will be placed on the surface of you eye and the laser will cut a flap on the protective membrane of the eye. This will allow to manipulative of the cornea. So the laser will start to reconstructive your cornea according to the correct configuration. One eye will take only seconds for this procedure to complete. Once complete, the flap will be restores to its position and it will heal on its own.

Complication
Here I would like to share some complication after the procedure. You may feel burn, water and itch. This is common for everyone after completing this procedures. Your vision are blurred after the procedure and I would recommend you to find someone to drive you home. You can't drive at all after the surgery and the doctor will give a protective guard for you to wear at night. You also need to place an eye drops to help you to overcome the pain such as antibiotic and other medications. For you to have a perfect vision, usually it will take more than 3 month for you to have a perfect vision and for your eyes to stabilize. Some people still need glasses after the procedures. This you need to see your doctor what has happen.

Ok. I'll be seeing you on another post sharing my knowledge and thoughts about Lasik for everyone to think and analyze before making any decision.

Does LASIK safe for long-term?

If everyone are following my blog, I'm sure that most of you understand and have your own views what is Lasik all about. My previous post shared knowledge for everyone to consider undergo this surgery or not. After I shared my experience having this surgery, a friend of mine ask a question.."I don't believe you can see after 10 minutes of surgery and the procedures only took less than 15 minutes". Well this is what happen to me and the rest of us who opted to have this surgery. This are some of the questions that people may ask and sometimes is hard to explain within minutes you can see the world clearly without having glasses anymore. Anyway, I would like to share views from the expert that I've read from Foxnews. com/health on the long term effect after doing Lasik.

As this technology started in early 1990's, there are patients has been undergo with this treatment 18 and 19 years ago and they mentioned that their vision still perfect although they choose to use this kind of treatment during early days and using blades. This proof that Lasik does gave a long-term results.

In 2008, a Spanish researcher has produce a study by following 70 Lasik patients for almost 10 years to know the effect on vision towards this treatment. His finding was these patient had healthy corneas and their vision remained accurate. The study also indicate that the procedure is safe and the technology used is effectively  efficient.

So, these are some of the opinion from the expert that I would like to share and at the same time would like people who are interested to know about Lasik to think carefully before making any decision. As for me, the only issues was the dryness at the early stage but with eye drops it help. Other than feeling happy playing football without a wearing glass on it, I've enjoy to have numbers of other activities. It raised my confident level and I feel that sometime decision that we make does make our life changed.

I'll share my thought and opinion from people out there about Lasik in other post. By the way, I'm not promoting any doctors, clinics or hospital for this surgery by I'm sharing my views from experience that I've got for people to know about this treatment and think precisely before making any decision.

See everyone on next post. Take a very good care of your eyes. It is most precious gift from god!

What is Lasik all about...

These are some of the information that I would like to share all about Lasik Eye Surgery. Its good to know how does the procedures gonna be. Once we know all about Lasik, making decision is another challenging thing. So, think wisely before you made the decision and before that, enjoy reading!

LASIK, which stands for laser in-situ keratomileusis, is a popular surgery used to correct vision in people who are nearsighted, farsighted, or have astigmatism.
All laser vision correction surgeries work by reshaping the cornea, the clear front part of the eye, so that light traveling through it is properly focused onto the retina located in the back of the eye. LASIK is one of a number of different surgical techniques used to reshape the cornea.

What Are the Advantages of LASIK Eye Surgery?
LASIK has many benefits, including:
·    It corrects vision. Around 96% of patients will have their desired vision after LASIK. An enhancement can further increase this number.
·      LASIK is associated with very little pain due to the numbing drops that are used.
·      Vision is corrected nearly immediately or by the day after LASIK.
·      No bandages or stitches are required after LASIK.
·      Adjustments can be made years after LASIK to further correct vision if vision changes while you age.
After having LASIK, most patients have a dramatic reduction in eyeglass or contact lens dependence and many patients no longer need them at all.

How LASIK Works
The LASIK procedure is performed by ophthalmologists, medical doctors who specialize in surgical treatments of the eye.  Here is a general outline of the procedure:
·      Anesthetic eye drops are applied to the eye.

·      The LASIK surgeon creates a protective flap to access the inner corneal tissue. During this part of the procedure, your vision dims and becomes blurry for about a minute.  After the flap is created you are able to see the flashing fixation light of the laser and the bright lights used for the procedure.

·      Next the inner layers of your cornea receive computer-controlled pulses of cool laser light. Although the laser light is invisible, the laser makes a clicking sound as it gently reshapes the inner corneal layer to improve and in many cases, eliminate your prescription. During this part of the procedure, an eye-tracking device tracks your eye movements to ensure precise correction.

·      Following the re-shaping of the tissue, the LASIK surgeon carefully repositions and aligns the flap to its original position. Protective shields are placed over your eye to prevent accidental rubbing as the flap heals naturally and securely over the next several hours.
·      After the LASIK eye surgery procedure, patients feel moderate discomfort and irritation for a few hours, but most are comfortable after a nap and rest.

How Should I Prepare for LASIK Eye Surgery?
Before LASIK eye surgery, you will meet with a coordinator or eye surgeon who will discuss what to expect during and after the procedure. During this session, your medical history will be evaluated and your eyes will be fully examined. Likely initial tests include measuring corneal thickness, refraction, corneal mapping, air pressure, and pupil dilation. Once you have gone through the initial evaluation, you will meet the surgeon, who will answer any questions you may have. Afterwards, you can schedule an appointment for the procedure.
If you wear rigid gas permeable contact lenses, you should not wear them for at least three weeks before your evaluation. Other types of contact lenses shouldn't be worn for at least three days prior to the evaluation. Be sure to bring your eyeglasses to the surgeon so your prescription can be reviewed.

On the day of your surgery, eat a light meal before going to the doctor and take all of your prescribed medications. Do not wear eye makeup or have any bulky accessories in your hair that will interfere with positioning your head under the laser. If you are not feeling well that morning, call the doctor's office to determine whether the procedure needs to be postponed.

I hope my sharing will help in making decisions.

See U in other post.
